I have 30 years of experience in accompanying local governments and communities through capacity building, technical assistance, and direct support. I have been involved in policy development and advocacy work to pass responsive legislation at the local, regional, and national levels.
Working with multistakeholders such as national and local governments, civil society, communities, the private sector, the security sector, and international partners to find common ground and work together for sustainable development and durable peace is one of my forte.
As a daughter of migrants who came to Mindanao in the 1950s at bilang taga-Davao, I have been supporting indigenous peoples and Bangsamoro rights since the mid-1980s. Up until over a century ago, IPs and Bangsamoro groups were the original residents of what we know now as Davao City. They still constitute a significant part of its population and traditions today.
Tatakbo ako sa paniniwalang the Davao we know is a product of many historical processes. But in a fundamental way, it is also about people’s aspirations for a better life. At sa okasyon ng halalang 2022, panahon na para tumawid sa susunod na antas at yugto kung saan ang mga mamamayan mismo ang tataya para sa kanilang karapatan at kagalingan.
Ito ang broad strokes ng aking plataporma. In general, nais kong dalhin ang boses ng mga nasa unang distrito ng Davao to help address national or sub-national issues that require legislative response. Related to this, dapat gamitin ang legislative platform to call attention to matters that concern the people of the first district, the rest of Davao, and Mindanao.
Ang implikasyon ng dalawang puntong ito, kailangang tuloy-tuloy ang pagiging aktibo ng mga taga-unang distrito sa governance. Dapat silang regular na kausapin at pakinggan ng kanilang kinatawan, at hamuning makilahok, hindi lamang sa panahon ng eleksyon.
Nais ko ring tumulong sa paglutas sa mga problema ng bansa na matagal nang naghihintay ng resolute at effective legislative action, kagaya ng anti-dynasty law, pagbangon mula sa pandemya, at pagtutol sa pagbabalik ng mga puwersa at pamamaraang associated with dictatorship and authoritarianism.
At dahil sa mga kadahilanang ito, sa panahon ng kampanya at pagkatapos nito, handa akong makipagtulungan sa mga grupo na may mga parehong adhikain.
Kailangan nang itapon ang lumang governance playbook ng Davao City na siyang ginamit for 35 years. Itinatali tayo nito sa mga sitwasyong ang interes ng iilan ang nangingibabaw at the expense of people’s rights and welfare and good governance.
Maraming mga progresibo sa Davao City: the politically progressive, the economically progressive, the socially progressive, the culturally progressive, the environmentally progressive, and the technologically progressive. Bawat isa, may kayang ibahagi.
But we need an enabling environment that will allow us to get our acts together and step up. This will not happen if we continue to accept that our future is exclusively reliant on the same recurring family names and that all that we have to do as citizens is to be passive and compliant.
To be able to explore other and better futures, we need a shared vision and a commitment to make way for what is possible, rather than just stick with what we have gotten used to.
Panahon na para magsama-sama at magtulungan upang maitawid natin sa susunod na antas at yugto ang Davao ng ating mga pangarap. Mao na ni ang higayon para mag-uban ug magtinabangay kita para atong matabok sa sunod nga ang-ang ug yugto ang Davao sa atong mga pangandoy.
